The 2014 Breeders’ Crown two-night event kicked off Friday at the Meadowlands Racetrack with four races for the fairer sex.

Bee A Magician won the $250,000 Mare Trot, the $500,000 2-Year-Old Filly Trot went to Mission Brief, Shake It Cerry easily took the $500,000 3-Year-Old Filly Trot and Sayitall Bb won the $593,750 3-Year-Old Filly Pace.

Bee A Magician, the 2013 Harness Horse of the Year, scored the head victory in 1:51 4/5 over Classic Martine. Hanodover Belle was Third.

Trained by Nifty Norman and driven by Brian Sears, Bee A Magician (5-2) was on the lead at every call but had to wait for a judges’ inquiry before being declared the winner.

“She bared out a little bit [in the stretch] but I couldn’t give up the inside right away and she was trotting real strong to the wire so that’s part of racing,” Sears said.

Though Bee A Magician bore it was determined by the judges that Classic Martine (6-5 favorite) did not have enough space to get through at the rail so no disqualification was necessary.

Bee A Magician paid $7.40 to win.

The trainer/driver combination of Ron Burke and Yannick Gingras wore two Crowns for the night with Mission Brief and Sayitall Bb.

Mission Brief ($2.80) won by 4 ¾ lengths in 1:51 4/5 over Danielle Hall. Livininthefastlane was third.

Sayitall Bb ($21.00) won by 1 ¾ lengths over Major Dancer in 1:50 3/5. Beach Gal Finished third.

Shake It Cerry ($2.40), trained by Jimmy Takter and driven by Ron Pierce, made an impressive three-wide move approaching the three-quarter pole to take command and score the 2 ¼ length victory over Cee Bee Yes in 1:52 2/5. Struck By Lindy was third.

Eight more Breeders Crown races will take place on Saturday night at the Meadowlands Racetrack.
