Tiki Barber is more than just the spark for the 3-0 Giants. The do-it-all running back also is venturing into the world of broadcasting and merchandising, New York Post SportsWeek reports in this week’s edition, which hits newsstands today.

Barber has been the biggest surprise on the surprising Giants in the early part of the season. He and rookie Ron Dayne have formed a formidable running attack that has put the Giants atop the NFC East. While he is having plenty of success in his day job, Barber also has dabbled in broadcasting on WCBS-TV and on WFAN radio. This week, he launched a T-shirt featuring he and Dayne, taking off on the “Thunder and Lightning” nickname the duo has acquired.

“There’s plenty of hours in the day,” Barber said. “If I wasn’t [busy], I wouldn’t be living life.”

In the story, entitled “A Cut Above,” writer Michael Morrissey examines the reasons why Barber had had a breakout season. The former Virginia Cavalier already has 326 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Barber also has helped Dayne along and the duo has baffled opponents thus far.

“When you’re game-planning, you have to talk to your guys about two different types of backs,” Jim Fassel said. “If we’re going against a back like Tiki or a back like Dayne, you’re going to talk about different ways to play them. They complement one another.”

The Sept. 21-27 edition of New YorkPost Sports Week will be available on newsstands through Wednesday.
