It might not be the Big East any more.

The league’s interim commissioner Joe Bailey told Bloomberg’s Business Week that they could “tweak” the name of the Big East to better reflect its soon-to-be members.

“The unintended consequences of adding new schools is that all of a sudden the Big East is a national conference,” Bailey told the website. “It extends to four time zones in major markets. In one sense, it almost represents the United States in that diversity.”

In 2013, Central Florida, Memphis, SMU and Houston will be joining the conference for all sports, while Boise State and San Diego State will be joining for football only. Navy plans on joining for football in 2015.

According to the report, “the Big East has commissioned a study to consider alternative names.”
