It’s about as bad as a birdie gets in golf.

Ernie Els was down in the dumps Sunday in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., beginning the last round of the Players Championship with a bogey. As he stooped to retrieve his ball, down came what a bird thought about Els’ start.

The South African took the dropping in stride, laughing it off and wiping himself off.

The foul start wouldn’t get too much better for Els, who shot a 75, finishing 4-over for the tournament and far out of contention.
