Bobby Valentine is one of three finalists for the Brewers’ managing job, according to multiple reports.

Valentine, who led the Mets to the 2000 World Series, joins former Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin and White Sox coach Joey Cora on Milwaukee’s short-list. According to SI.com, Valentine is impressed with the Brewers organization, but “isn’t necessarily expecting to get the job.”

Valentine denied a Wisconsin Radio Network report that he was near a deal.

“There has been no conversation about a contract with your team,” Valentine told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “Not one word has been mentioned to me and I have not mentioned to anyone there about a contract.”

Valentine, now an analyst with ESPN, was in the running for managing positions with the Marlins and Mariners. He took his name out of consideration in Florida and was passed over for Eric Wedge with Seattle. He did admit to having a meeting with the Brewers.

The Mets will soon begin their managing search with Sandy Alderson expected to be named GM as early as Friday. The Post reported that Alderson is seeking someone with major-league experience and is unlikely to hire Wally Backman, who managed the Brooklyn Cyclones — the Mets’ Single A club — this past season.
