Leading contributors to Rutgers athletics threatened to cut donations following athletic director Tim Pernetti’s resignation.

“We’ve invested so much into #RU and now I’m not even sure who we turn to,” tweeted Tom Mendiburu, whose High Point Solutions paid $6 million for naming rights to the football stadium.

Several former Rutgers athletes rushed to Pernetti’s defense, including the Ravens’ Ray Rice, former Giants lineman Shaun O’Hara and Eric LeGrand, the Scarlet Knights linebacker who was paralyzed during a game in 2010.

“It’s sad to see,” LeGrand told reporters. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without him.”
