The Mets yesterday officially signed Chad Bradford to a one-year, $1.4 million contract, reuniting the righty with the pitching coach for whom he had the most success, Rick Peterson.

Pitching for Peterson from 2001-03 in Oakland, Bradford went 13-7 with a 3.00 ERA and established himself as one of the most dependable matchup relievers (righty vs. righty) in the majors.

“New York is a great situation for me,” Bradford said in a statement released by the Mets. “I worked with Rick Peterson in Oakland and I know what he can do. With all the off-season additions, I’m sure the Mets will be contending for a playoff spot and I want to do all I can to help.”

In eight playoff appearances spanning 8 1/3 innings, Bradford has not allowed a run, a fact Mets GM Omar Minaya cited in the same statement, saying, “Chad is a veteran guy who has had success in the postseason. He brings valuable experience to our bullpen.”
