Brian Kelly has found himself as the butt of the joke a few times since his fake accent charade after taking the LSU job, but Tuesday he tried to doll out some of his own jabs.
During a press conference ahead of LSU’s home opener against Southern, Kelly teased the media members for their tardiness, seemingly calling out one reporter in particular.
“We’ll open it up to this late-arriving media crowd that must have enjoyed the weekend,” Kelly said. “That’s usually $10 that we put into the kitty. We’ll have big bash at the end of the year at my place.”

Getty ImagesLeah Vann, LSU beat writer for The Advocate in Baton Rouge, fired back: “Maybe if you win, I’ll be on time,” referring to LSU’s heartbreaking loss to Florida State in the season opener and Kelly’s debut with the Tigers.
Twitter had a field day with the interaction, including one user who said: “If you worked for me, you would be fired. Could you be more unprofessional?”
Vann tried to clear the air afterward, explaining that she was coming from a doctor appointment.
“Press conference was at noon, I was running from a doctor’s appointment,” Vann tweeted. “Got there at 11:57. Brian Kelly called me out, said jokingly I owed him $10, I said if he won maybe I’d be on time. Not my finest hour. I apologized afterward, he was super chill and said I still owe him $10
“I know Brian Kelly likes to joke,” Vann continued in a thread. “He clearly took it as one from our conversation afterward. All in good fun, fam.”
Fellow LSU beat reporter Glenn Guilbeau came to Vann’s defense amid the Twitter storm, saying: “Great comeback, Leah. He was kidding. You were kidding. He started it. You finished it (something his team couldn’t do, ha ha). Not unprofessional at all. Kelly has a great sense of humor, unlike some LSU fans.”
