Bronx native Kerwin Okoro will transfer from Iowa State to attend Rutgers this fall, according to a source.

In his freshman year at Iowa State, Okoro appeared in nine games averaging one point per game in four minutes of action. The guard had a rough year, losing his father in December and his older brother in February which makes him eligible for a hardship waiver, meaning the NCAA could allow him to play next season instead of sitting a year out as a transfer.

Rutgers recently hired Eddie Jordan to coach the team after former head coach Mike Rice was fired in April for his abusive behavior towards his team. Rutgers finished with a 15-17 record and hasn’t had a winning record since 2006. Okoro is the third player to commit to Rutgers since Jordan’s hiring.
