Bryson DeChambeau was five feet away from a place in golf history.

But the hulking American pulled his short putt left on the 18th hole to miss out on a 59 at the BMW Championship on Friday.

“It’s just trying to have the right line and right speed,” DeChambeau told the Golf Channel after his round. “I had the right line, but not the right speed. It was an awesome opportunity.”

DeChambeau bullied the Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland, putting on a near-flawless performance on his way to a 60 and a spot near the top of the leaderboard.

“It’s just one shot, plenty of holes out there where I could’ve made a birdie somewhere else,” DeChambeau said.

DeChambeau, the 2020 US Open champ, had two eagles — on holes 4 and 16 — to accompany eight birdies for the 12-under round.

There have been 11 59s in PGA Tour history and one 58, which was shot by Jim Furyk at the 2016 Travelers Championship.
