BUMP IN THE ROAD
GIANT REPORT CARD
QUARTERBACKS: C-
Through three quarters, Eli Manning (14 of 30, 215 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) had 55 passing yards. Late rally on two drives to force OT a good sign, but it shouldn’t have come to that.
RUNNING BACKS: C
One rushing attempt, one fumble lost on Cowboys’ 1-yard line by rookie Brandon Jacobs, who swore it won’t happen again. Tiki Barber (14-64) had no run longer than nine yards and needs the ball more often.
WIDE RECEIVERS: C
Loads of attention paid to Plaxico Burress (5-55), who was not on same page early with his QB. Amani Toomer (2-11) can’t get into a groove, which is a big problem.
TIGHT ENDS: B+
Tale of two halves for Jeremy Shockey (5-129, 1 TD), who did not have a catch in the first two quarters. Costly false-start penalty on Visanthe Shiancoe stalled a drive.
OFFENSIVE LINE: C+
LG David Diehl was beaten inside by DT La’Roi Glover for one of four Dallas sacks. RT Kareem McKenzie was hit with a false start and was beaten by Greg Ellis for a sack.
DEFENSIVE LINE: B
Big performance from DE Michael Strahan (six tackles, two sacks, one fumble recovery) and active day for DE Osi Umenyiora (one sack, one forced fumble).
LINEBACKERS: B+
It will be difficult to take Nick Greisen off the field. He was a force with 10 tackles and a forced fumble, helping to shut down the Cowboys’ running game (2.4-yard average).
SECONDARY: C
Allowed another 300-yard passing game (312 to be exact). S Brent Alexander was beaten on key 26-yard catch by TE Jason Witten in OT. Curtis Deloatch had an interception but had trouble dealing with Key shawn Johnson (8-120). Will Allen continues to boggle the mind by not coming up with the ball.
SPECIAL TEAMS: A
Justin Tuck had two special-teams tackles and a blocked FG. Greisen got his hands on a punt.
KICKING GAME: A
Jay Feely is the real deal. Had FGs of 50 and 45 yards and is 10-for-10 this season. Jeff Feagles dropped four of his five punts down inside the 20.
COACHING: C
Didn’t like it when Tom Coughlin gave Jacobs his only rushing attempt late in game on Dallas 3-yard line. And don’t like seeing the offense get too caught up with throwing the ball.
