Billy Joe Saunders is set to take on Canelo Alvarez in a super middleweight unification bout at AT&T Stadium on Saturday.

If the antics leading up to the match — his side threatened to pull out of the fight over the size of the ring and the fighters exchanging heated words in their hotel lobby — is any indication of how the fight will go, it’s sure to be entertaining.

The undefeated Brit (30-0, 14 knockouts) has his work cut out for him against the powerful Alvarez (55-1-2, 37 KOs) in a match streaming exclusively on DAZN.

Saunders, 31, has a knack for lingering in the headlines for non-boxing reasons. Here are just some of the controversies he has found himself embroiled in outside of the ring:

Impersonating a police officer

In September 2018, the then-29-year-old world champion was caught on camera pretending to be a police officer and forcing a man to strip naked in his car. Saunders is heard in the video telling the driver to remove his shirt, trousers and the rest of his clothes because he thought he “had a weapon.”

Letting his son drive

In a since-viral video in June 2018, Saunders shows his son – who was clearly way too young to be behind the wheel – driving a car. The first part of the clip, Saunders is recording from the passenger seat. But then he steps out of the car and allows his son to do donuts in a grass field completely unattended.

Video for men on ‘how to hit women’

During coronavirus lockdown, Saunders recorded himself telling men how to “best domestically abuse their female partners.” He had his boxing license suspended for the horrific video, in which he instructs how to “hit her on the chin” and “finish her off” while demonstrating on a punching bag.

Offering homeless woman drugs for sex act

Video footage emerged in September 2018 of Saunders offering a homeless woman cocaine to perform a sex act on his friend. He also encouraged the woman to attack an innocent bystander for being a “pedophile” in the video, which police described as “sickening.” He was fined $100,000 by the British Boxing Board of Control.

Brawl at Nando’s

Sanders reportedly threw half a chicken at fellow pugilist Deontay Wilder in August 2018 after the two exchanged words, setting off a melee at a fast food eatery in Belfast. Video of the incident spread over social media, with Saunders cheekily explaining, “I just went to say hello and how are you. Next thing you know he tried to be the bully, so I beat him up with a chicken.”
