It took 30 years, but Chris Mullin finally is being honored by his alma mater.
The St. John’s great will be one of seven honorees inducted into the Red Storm Hall of Fame on Feb. 21, the school announced Friday afternoon.
Mullin will be joined by pitcher C.J. Nitkowski, a 10-year Major League Baseball veteran, golfer Andrew Svoboda, and female basketball player Kia Wright, among others. The ceremony will be held at the D’Angelo Center on the Queens school’s campus.
“We look forward to honoring these former student-athletes and loyal supporters who have made a significant impact on our storied athletics history,” St. John’s athletic director Chris Monasch said in a statement.
Mullin, a Brooklyn product out of Xaverian High School, led St. John’s to its last Final Four berth in 1984-85. The three-time Big East Player of the Year, three-time Haggerty Award Winner and John R. Wooden Award recipient was taken seventh overall by the Warriors in the 1985 NBA Draft and went on to enjoy a productive 16-year NBA career, named to five all-star teams and averaged 18.2 points per game.
The sweet-shooting southpaw is also St. John’s all-time scoring leader with 2,440 career points and one of only two players in program history to score 2,000 points. Mullin also holds school records for career free throw percentage and free throws made, and ranks top five in career assists and steals.
A two-time Gold medalist, the 51-year-old Mullin is now an advisor with the Kings.
St. John’s Hall of Fame currently includes 120 individuals since it was established in 1984.
