Every week in the fall, NYPost.com’s Dylan Butler and Joseph Staszewski will attempt to prognosticate the coming Catholic High School Football League weekend.

RECORDS AFTER WEEK 8

Butler: 56-14 (7-2 in Week 8)

Staszewski: 55-15 (6-3 in Week 8)

Here’s the first round of the CHSFL playoffs:

St. John the Baptist @ Monsignor Farrell (Saturday, 5:30 p.m.)

Butler: Monsignor Farrell heads into the postseason reeling, having scored a combined 21 points in four straight losses. That happened against much stiffer competition than St. John the Baptist has played all season. Will the Lions anemic offense break out against the Cougars? Probably not, but Farrell has enough defensively to solve the Cougars and will advance to the Class AA semifinals with their first win since Oct. 3. Pick: Monsignor Farrell

Staszewski: The Lions have been totally inept on offense during its four-game losing streak without injured running back Michael Viegas. It’s a tough game to call because the Farrell defense is excellent against the running attack, something the Cougars thrive on. I think a step down in class will be just what the Lions needed. They will snap their losing streak behinds its defense. Pick: Monsignor Farrell

Fordham Prep vs. Holy Cross @ Maritime College (Saturday, 7 p.m.)

Butler: For the third straight year Holy Cross has earned a “home” game in the quarterfinals of the Class AAA playoffs – though this home game will be played at Maritime College because Bayside Athletic Field was already booked on Sunday. The Knights were upset in each of the last two years, losing to Kellenberg and then Chaminade. That’s not happening Saturday night. Holy Cross is too talented and too dominant up front. Fordham Prep has improved since a 27-8 drubbing in Week 4, but not enough to beat Holy Cross. Pick: Holy Cross

Staszewski:The two teams are heading into the postseason on very different notes. Cross enters off a stunning come-from-behind win over previously unbeaten St. Joseph by the Sea. Fordham Prep on the other hand is coming off seeing its three-game winning streak stopped, 35-0, by undefeated Holy Trinity. Cross won the regular season meeting, 27-8, and should put up a similar type of victory in this one. The Knights are too deep and too explosive for the Rams. Pick Holy Cross

Xaverian @ St. Anthony’s (Saturday, 7:30 p.m.)

Butler: Xaverian played St. Anthony’s tight last week in a 41-20 loss and the Clippers were encouraged by their performance, but don’t expect the same in the Class AAA quarterfinals. Having already clinched home field and banged up from the Holy Cross game in Week 7, the Friars didn’t have much to play for last weekend at Kings Bay. They do now and will flex their muscles and cruise into the semifinals. Pick: St. Anthony’s

Staszewski:The Clippers proved they belong on the same field as the Friars last week. They trailed 21-14 at half at home. Quarterback Greg Rando had one of its best games of the year in the air. Going to South Huntington and trying to beat St. Anthony’s is another story, especially after its’ coaching staff got a good look at you the week before. The script is also the same for Xaverian, limit mistakes they can play with anyone, but this task is too much. Pick: St. Anthony’s

Iona Prep @ St. Joseph by the Sea (Sunday, 1 p.m.)

Butler: They’re not looking for any sympathy, but you’ve got to feel for St. Joseph by the Sea a bit. The Vikings were one win away from an undefeated regular season and one of the top two seeds in the Class AAA playoffs. Instead, for a second straight year Sea falls to Holy Cross and drops to No. 4. And for a second straight year, Sea’s playoff run ends in the quarterfinals. Iona Prep is still the defending champions and healthy. Jeffrey Mack is back and quarterback Tyrae Woodson-Samuels will again pick apart the Sea secondary. Pick: Iona Prep

Staszewski: The Vikings loss to Holy Cross earned them arguably the toughest matchup for a team with just one loss, especially now that Iona running back Jeffrey Mack is healthy again. St. Joseph by the Sea beat the Gaels, 42-28, during the regular season, but it was not as easy as the score indicated. Greg Manos’ club will enter the game hopping mad after its loss and have more trouble against the pass than the run. It won’t be easy, but they will find a way. Pick: St. Joseph by the Sea

Xavier @ Mount St. Michael (Sunday, 1 p.m.)

Butler: If you told me this was the Class AA quarterfinal matchup two weeks ago, I would have said Xavier would win easily. After all, the Knights have been scoring points in bunches and their defense has been stout, while Mount had won just one of its first six games. But the Mountaineers ended the regular season with an impressive 14-13 victory against Chaminade and head into the postseason with a ton of confidence. And Xavier hasn’t exactly had a ton of success against ‘AAA’ opposition. The season won’t be over for either team, with both playing on Thanksgiving, but it’s Mount that heads into the ‘AA’ semifinals after a hard-fought, tight victory. Pick: Mount St. Michael

Staszewski: This game is one of the most interesting this week. You’ve get a red hot Xavier team against a Mountaineers squad that has begun to play well after a slow starter behind fullback Gary Acquah. I’ve been hot and cold with the Knights this season, but with Mount quarterfinal Jaylen Amaker nursing a sore ankle, they will take this one. It’s balanced running attack of Jonny Clarke and John Wilson will wear down the Mountaineers defense. Pick: Xavier

Cardinal Hayes @ Kellenberg (Sunday, 1 p.m.)

Butler: This has the potential to be the most lopsided game of the weekend. No team scored less points (82) and gave up more points (238) in the ‘AAA’ than Kellenberg, which head into the postseason after being trounced by previously winless St. Francis Prep. Hayes, meanwhile, struggled offensively with quarterback Kwamayne Davis suspended for academic reasons in a 20-12 win against St. Peter’s. With our without Davis, the Cardinals win against the lowly Firebirds. Pick: Cardinal Hayes

Staszewski: Hayes bounced back from its first loss of the season by watching its defense hold the St. Peter’s offense on its final drive. If quarterback Kwamayne Davis returns from academic suspension then the Cardinals will be too much for the Firebirds to handle on offense. Running back Jeramiah Kobena is due for a breakout performance after two quiet weeks. Kellenberg has struggled to put up points all season. Pick: Cardinal Hayes.

Christ the King @ St. Peter’s (Sunday, 1 p.m.)

Butler: This is a rematch of a Week 3 matchup, won by St. Peter’s, 20-8, on Staten Island. Both teams are coming off losses, both have impressive, but inconsistent offenses – which partially explains why the two are competing in the Class A playoffs. The Royals have enough big-play guys, including the freakishly athletic Terrel Hunt, to pound St. Peter’s into submission. But the Royals are an enigma and there’s no telling what team will step off the bus Sunday. That said, I’ll give the slight edge to St. Peter’s because they’re home. Pick: St. Peter’s

Staszewski: The Eagles won the first meeting 20-8 on Staten Island. Christ the King is playing much better than it did all the way back in Week 3. I’ve tried to ride the Royals momentum the last few weeks and have gotten burned. While Will Hunter and Terrel Hunt have the ability to make enough plays to win this one, I think being at home will help the Eagles. John Woodford, Hakim Rice and Co. will advance. Pick: St. Peter’s

Bishop Ford @ Cardinal Spellman (Sunday, 1 p.m.)

Butler: If it wasn’t for the Pilots stunning 24-14 Week 8 victory, this would have been a no-brainer. Almost every skilled guy on the field for the Falcons’ opening two wins of the season are sidelined with injuries. Spellman, which looked like a glorified junior varsity team in the beginning of the season, has slowly improved. I can’t believe I’m writing this, but the Pilots will win and play for the Class A championship. Pick: Cardinal Spellman

Staszewski: These two teams hooked up in the final week of the regular season with Spellman grabbing its first win of the year with senior backup quarterback Anthony Warme playing. The Falcons have been decimated by injuries at the skill positions including wide receiver Steven Brown and fullback Tim Wade. Tony Ward is Spellman’s playmaker and he will be that again as it advances. Pick: Cardinal Spellman

Archbishop Stepinac vs. St. Francis Prep @ St. Anthony’s (Sunday, 1:30 p.m.)

Butler: This game is harder to predict that it seems at first glance. The easy way to go would be to say Stepinac rolls because they head into the game undefeated, while the Terriers have but one win. But all the Crusaders wins have come against ‘AA’ teams. Sure they could only beat who is on their schedule, but Stepinac hasn’t played Holy Trinity, St. Joseph by the Sea and Holy Cross like St. Francis Prep did. Yeah, the Terriers lost to all three teams, but that experience will help them in the ‘AA’ playoffs. I might be crazy here, but I like what I saw from St. Francis Prep a week ago against lowly Kellenberg and the Terriers will ruin Stepinac’s undefeated season. Pick: St. Francis Prep

Staszewski: The Terriers are coming off its first victory of the season with a lopsided win over Kellenberg. Wide receiver Bryan Caffrey is versatile and underrated. SFP has been better than its record showed and will need to feed off its moment. The Crusaders have been the best ‘AA’ team all season for a reason. They are one of the most athletic teams on both sides of the ball and quarterback Tyrell Goodman is a blossoming star. Pick: Archbishop Stepinac
