BOSTON – David Cone has not decided whether he’ll retire after the 2001 season.
“[I’ll] just take some time when the year’s over and try to figure it out,” said Cone, who’s 8-3 with a 4.47 ERA.
The former Yankee right-hander rejuvenated his career with Boston after a 4-14 season last year.
“I just could not quit the way last year went,” Cone said. “So I feel good to somewhat dispel last year. I’m still looking for a big finish, though.”
The 38-year-old righty, who pitches against Mike Mussina in tonight’s finale, wasn’t sure if a possible strike or lockout next spring would affect his decision.
“It’s hard to say at this point,” he said. [It’s] probably just best to wait and see what happens.”
