On Tuesday, Conor McGregor celebrated the UFC’s arrival in New York by declaring that he runs this town, and then he celebrated his takeover by hitting the town — hard.

The UFC featherweight champion was seen partying with a friend in a photo he posted to Instagram on Wednesday morning, holding what suspiciously resembles a marijuana joint.

Hours earlier, wearing the exact same suit, McGregor was sitting on a stage at Madison Square Garden for the official UFC 205 press conference where he declared, “I run New York! I run this whole city!”

McGregor is unlikely to get into trouble for posting the picture. For starters, it would difficult to prove he was smoking weed, and even if he was, there’s not much the UFC can do about it. The UFC’s drug-testing policy is overseen by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), which does not prohibit the use of cannabinoids such as marijuana out of competition. McGregor’s potential weed smoking falls safely within the out-of-competition timeframe.

The Irishman’s potential marijuana use comes in stark contrast with his nemesis Nate Diaz, who openly puffed on a vaping device full of CBD — a cannabinoid — just minutes after the pair fought at UFC 202 on Aug. 20. Beyond just vaping the CBD, Diaz also extolled its healing properties in his press conference. “It helps with the healing process and inflammation, stuff like that,” Diaz said. “So you want to get these for before and after the fights, training. It’ll make your life a better place.”

Though Diaz passed his post-fight, in-competition drug test, he is still under investigation by USADA on the basis of their “admitted use” policy.
