1ST RACE – Is there more formful horse on grounds than filly Honey Fritters? Beaten favorite two straight, including last out when she set pace, finished second by neck. She was 0-for-12 with four seconds going into this heat, was favored again – at 3-5! – to finally break maiden. She set pace along rail under Aaron Gryder, pressured down backside by 39-1 Miss Easy, and when Miss Easy dropped out of it, Cove Creek, Shaun Bridgmohan up, went to attack Honey Fritters entering far turn, and those two hooked up to pull far ahead of rest of field.

Turning for home, Cove Creek drew on even terms, and as they dueled down stretch there was little question Honey Fritters would settle for second again, which she did. Valid Acquistion, making first start off year’s layoff, finished far back in third.

2ND RACE – First of three five-horse fields (no trifecta wagering) on card produced classic example of speed duel setting it up for off-the-pace horses. Acreditado, 6-5 choice with Eriluis Vaz up dropping to 12.5G after being claimed by Gary Contessa for 16G, hooked up early with Brightest Ice, dueled down backside and around turn, finally began to pull away. But Golden Diamond, who sat perfect trip in behind speed, swung out, ran to daylight deep stretch. Illusionary Magic was along late to nip Acreditado for second.

4TH RACE – Rafael Bejarano was named to ride even-money One Mean Queen for Contessa, but with Bejarano missing flight back from Fla. yesterday a.m., Alan Garcia, who rode her last two times, retained mount. After ground-saving trip from well off pace, One Mean Queen ran into traffic jam mid-stretch in behind pace-setting Time for Karakorum, Penny Pequot and His Beauty, was forced to steady, regained momentum, swung out to split horses, drove through to take command late as much best.

5TH RACE – Another heavy favorite, 4-5 Perfect Colony with Mike Luzzi up, ran into blind switch, but she wasn’t as fortunate as One Mean Queen trying to come through narrow hole mid-stretch, Perfect Colony got body-slammed by Runaway Eleanor, Jose Espinoza up, to her outside, sandwiching her between Runaway Eleanor and Sentimental Miss drifting out to her inside.

By time Perfect Colony got running room, Gershowitz was long gone on front end. Runaway Eleanor outfinished Perfect Colony for second, but stewards lit inquire sign, reversed order, DQing Runaway Eleanor to third.

9TH RACE – Illustrious Kiss, Pablo Fragoso subbing for Bejarano, was hard held well back off pace saving ground around turn, continued inside down stretch, had to wait for racing room, finished with good energy between horses but settled for second behind Rockiano, Julian Pimentel up, who had clear sailing outside.
