Mavericks’ billionaire owner Mark Cuban’s midnight rendezvous with free agent point guard Jason Kidd appears to be a success.

“It’s up to us to work on the details, but I’m very optimistic,” Cuban told the Dallas Morning News.

Cuban flew to New York to meet with Kidd, who played the last season and a half in Dallas, before the Knicks had a chance to have their appointment with the former Nets star.

Knicks president Donnie Walsh can only offer the team’s mid-level exception to Kidd, which makes him a longshot to come to New York for more than just a meeting.
