There is a touch of envy in his voice when Bill Parcells talks of the quiet confidence within Curtis Martin. It’s as if the grizzled coach understands the motor that drives his star running back is something that can’t be influenced by harsh words, flattery or even materialistic incentives. Martin’s motivation comes from a source that even Parcells can’t tap into.

“He has just got an innter peace about him that’s pretty good,” Parcells said recently.

Martin says he wakes up each morning expecting to have a good day, that’s the trigger for his inner peace. Coming to work is not a chore, but a joy unaffected by circumstance. “I just have to stay focused on my goals, my faith and my beliefs and put all my heart into it,” Martin said. “I do my best and let God do the rest.”
