Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones are renewing their rivalry the only place they can – for now.

The two continue to trade blows on social media with Cormier, the UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion, hoping for a fight with Brock Lesnar next year and Jones the former UFC light heavyweight champ serving his retroactive and reduced 15-month USADA suspension. Jones can return to the octagon in October.

Cormier said earlier this month on “UFC Tonight” that he has moved past Jones in reaction to his rival’s suspension and the possibility of a third fight between the two. Jones tested positive for a banned substance — his second failed test — in conjunction with his fight with Cormier at UFC 214 in July 2017. Jones’ knockout win became a no contest because of it and the light heavyweight title went back to Cormier.

Friday morning Jones took issue with Cormier’s Twitter post from Wednesday that had a screen shot of his phone with a missed call from USADA and writing, “Stop calling me! @usantidoping.” Cormier has expressed displeasure with the strain dealing with the USADA puts on him.

Jones fired back on Instagram writing that Cormier didn’t want to take the call because he didn’t want to “hear them say I’m innocent” because “the instant the illusion you’ve created shatters.” He also vowed to “bury” Cormier again if they fight for a third time. Jones won the first meeting by unanimous decision in 2015.

Cormier answered back later Friday on Instagram with a post that included photos of Jones’ various legal troubles and referenced the Rochester native’s failed drug tests. He calls Jones a “snitch” and a “scumbag” in reference to a USADA release saying Jones delivered “substantial assistance.” Jones was facing a potential four-year ban before the ruling.

“I thought there was nothing lower than a cheater but it’s not surprising that you show me a whole new level,” Cormier wrote. “ You’re a cheater and a SNITCH! Get off my page and go do some coke, or steroids or whatever you losers do in your spare time.”

Jones’ next opponent will likely not be Cormier. The UFC is working on a fight between Jones and Alexander Gustafsson for UFC 232 on Dec. 29 in Las Vegas, according to ESPN. For now, the only jabs Jones and Cormier will be throwing at each other will be on social media.
