LOS ANGELES — David Beckham was Thursday looking ahead to next summer’s London Olympics after expressing an interest in playing for Great Britain’s soccer team.
The L.A. Galaxy midfielder said he was keen to challenge for a gold medal to add to the Spanish title he won with Real Madrid and the numerous trophies he lifted with Manchester United.
Beckham, who represented the England national team 115 times, will be 37 when the Games open in July 2012.
The seasoned-veteran suggested there was a lot of soccer to be played before the tournament begins, but said he felt in good health and believed his form was good enough for selection.
“I think it’s something I’d like to be involved in as a player,” said Beckham. “But we’ll have to wait and see what happens, as it’s still a year away yet. I feel good in games and I feel as if I’m still performing well. I’ll enjoy the rest of this season. You know we’re only five games in.”
