The Devils agreed to terms with Brian Rafalski yesterday and are likely to wrap up their arbitration business today with Scott Niedermayer’s award.
Rafalski is believed to have agreed to a minimal raise, from $3 million to $3.1 million on a one-year contract, to forego his arbitration hearing slated for today. Instead, he can become an unrestricted free agent after the upcoming lockout-threatened season.
Niedermayer’s verdict is expected today, and could set a Devils’ salary record. Niedermayer’s hearing was Wednesday, and the Norris Trophy winner is believed to have turned down a five-year, $40 million offer from New Jersey.
