Roberto Donadoni was canned as Napoli coach on Tuesday after just seven months in charge.

He will be replaced by former Sampdoria manager Walter Mazzarri.

“It is a necessary decision to give a new impulse to our season,” the Serie A club’s president Aurelio De Laurentiis said in a statement, according to Reuters.

Donadoni, fired as Italy coach after a poor showing at the 2008 European Championship, returned to management with Napoli last March, but has paid the price for four away games without a point this season.

Mazzarri led Sampdoria the past two seasons and also guided Reggina for three years in Serie A.
