LOWDOWN: Wild Promises, based in northern California, has won eight of 10 on turf, including last four, and runs well fresh. Trainer Greg Gilchrist has had success shipping to Calder (see Lost in the Fog), and Aaron Gryder flies in from the coast to ride.

LOWDOWN: Soldier’s Dancer stumbled at break and lost his rider as even-money favorite last out, but rallied to win his two previous starts on turf as much the best. Handles any kind of going and likes this course.

HOLLYWOOD TURF CUP
Hollywood Park, 8th race. Grade 1. Purse: $250,000. Mile-and-a-half, turf, 3-year-olds and up. Post: 7:05 p.m.
LOWDOWN: Irish invader Winchester was pitched in over his head in the Breeders’ Cup Turf, but remained in southern California and has adapted nicely. He skipped a seemingly easier spot in the Hollywood Derby to point for this race.

Last week: Old Fashioned won the Remsen paying $3.50; in the Cigar Mile, Visionaire (8-1) had to check when Wanderin Boy broke down in front of him and finished eighth. Beethoven won the Kentucky Jockey Club paying $14.
