Edgar Berlanga’s last two opponents were supposed to be different.

Lanell Bellows (20-6-3) and Ulises Sierra (15-2-2) had never been knocked out, let alone in the first round, throughout veteran careers. Their trips into the ring with Berlanga, the ascending and undefeated super middleweight, changed that in a hurry.

Shawn Porter, a two-time welterweight world champion, has served as a boxing analyst for Fox Sports and is currently part of NBC’s “Ring City USA” broadcast team. He’s friends with Bellows, and knew that his plan was to at least give Berlanga a few rounds. Andre Rozier, Berlanga’s trainer, thought Sierra was a possibility to go a few rounds with Berlanga, perhaps even providing some damage.

Both Bellows and Sierra became the latest victims of Berlanga’s electric knockout streak, their nights ending prematurely before the second round. Berlanga, a 23-year-old Brooklyn native, is 16-0 to start his professional career, all via first-round KO, using uncommon force and speed in both hands to immediately weaken his opponent before relentlessly moving in for the kill.

“Edgar is an amalgamation of punching power and aggression, and he’s like a seek-and-destroy missile,” Rozier told The Post. “Once the bell rings, he’s coming to get you. And that’s what makes him very exciting. … He brings a fierce attack to the ring, and he’s what people want to see.”

Berlanga has worked into the top 10 in the super middleweight division: No. 8 in the WBO rankings and No. 10 in the Ring rankings. His team is comprised of Rozier, who has trained world champion fighters including Zab Judah, Danny Jacobs and Curtis Stevens (all Brooklyn products), and strength and conditioning coach Dave “Scooter” Honig, who has trained champions such as Luis Collazo and Judah, as well as celebrities like LL Cool J and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Berlanga is Rozier’s second Prospect of the Year, following Jacobs. His power and his ability to wreck opponents’ plans as soon as he provides damage (harkening back to Mike Tyson’s adage that “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth”), have struck Rozier the most. Honig credits most of that power to Berlanga’s legs and lower body — “his own power innate.”

“At this stage, he’s definitely on par with all of my super killers,” Rozier said. “He’s right there. He possesses the speed and the power and the size more so than any of the others. … He’s moving along at a perfect pace, but I think as he manifests and grows even more, he’s going to shine like a light and really just go all the way to the top and end up being a future hall of famer.”

Although Bellows and Sierra were considered steps up in competition for Berlanga, Porter recognized “he is putting some guys out that, I guess for the sake of words, are supposed to [get knocked out].” Berlanga’s first-round knockout streak brings along with it a sense of unknown. He hasn’t been able to show his full arsenal, like the “beautiful boxing skills” and “beautiful leg and head movement” Berlanga promises he possesses.

When Berlanga gets the opportunity to show that full package, Porter thinks it will be appropriate for him to make a major step up to face one of the top fighters in the division. Berlanga’s next bout will be Saturday against Demond Nicholson (23-3-1). Rozier said would surprise him if Nicholson lasts the first round.

Porter hopes to soon see Berlanga matched up against Gabriel Rosado, a two-time title challenger he knows can provide Berlanga with the type of experience he needs. Rosado or Jesse Hart, another two-time title challenger, could be opponents in the near future.

“It’s a lot of talk for him right now,” Porter told The Post. “It’s ‘When is he going to go more than one round?’ I think that, even though he’s trying to hold onto that, and make history, I think at the same time he’s even wondering, ‘Who’s going to get out of the first round for me?’ Mark my words, the first time he goes past one round, he’ll walk back to the corner smiling and I think that he’ll have found a worthy challenger to take him more than just a round and give him a great challenge.”
