New head coach Herman Edwards yesterday completed his first coaching staff with the Jets, adding three assistants.

Edwards added David Merritt as a defensive assistant, Eric Price as an offensive assistant/quality control and Lou Hernandez as an assistant strength and conditioning coach.

Merritt is a former NFL player who most recently was the defensive line coach at Virginia Military Institute. Price was the quarterbacks coach at Washington State, where he worked for his father, head coach Mike Price. Hernandez was the head strength and conditioning coach at the University of Houston, the same school that employed John Lott, the Jets current strength and conditioning coach.

Edwards said with the additions, “We feel strongly that we have put together a very capable and sound coaching staff.”
