Mookie Wilson’s name will always be linked to October baseball at Shea Stadium, due to Bill Buckner not fielding his grounder 20 years ago.
Last night he was on the other side of the magic and one that left him with mixed feelings. Sitting in the stands, the popular former Met was watching his stepson Preston play left field for the Cardinals and trying to deny the Mets a trip to the World Series.
“No question,” Mookie said of having mixed emotions about the Cardinals’ 3-1 win in Game 7 of the NLCS. “I think everyone knows I spent most of my career in New York and I still have ties here. But I only have one son.”
Given a start in left field, Preston went 0-for-3 and fanned three times.
“He had a rough night but Game 7 will do that to you,” Mookie said.
