Former international soccer player Paul Gascoigne faced questioning by cops Friday following his arrest in a drugs raid on a house in northeastern England.

Police said the arrest took place in Burradon, North Tyneside, Thursday afternoon at around 5:30pm local time.

The troubled ex-player spent the night in police cells and faced further questioning by police Friday.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said, “A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a class A drug. A second man, aged 43, was later arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs.”

It was the latest in a series of police-related issues for the former Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Lazio, Rangers, Middlesbrough and Everton player, who has suffered from alcoholism for years.

On Wednesday he was warned he faced jail when he admitted a DUI charge — his second this year — at Newcastle Magistrates Court. Sentencing was to follow later. Read more:
