Euro ’08: Day Six
Day Six of the Euros is a chance for Germany to live up to its billing as they face Croatia at 11:55 a.m. ET., followed by co-hosts Austria getting into it with Poland at 2:30 p.m. ET.
Germany and Croatia â- both undefeated with three points -â will likely be a physical battle. Although the Germans are the pre-tournament favorites to win it all, the Croats are not short on confidence. They know they can mix it up with the big boys as their road win last year against England during qualification proves.
On an historical note, Germany took third place at the 2006 World Cup, while Croatia ended up with the same place in 1998 World Cup, during which Croatia trounced Germany, 3-0.
In the second game, Austria will need a miracle to get points off Poland, but anything is possible when youâre playing at home.
As for Wednesdayâs games, Portugal, with its 3-1 victory over the Czech Republic, showed that theyâre a real threat. Although Cristiano Ronaldo is a delight to watch (his goal and two assists were outstanding), Turkeyâs injury-time goal to knock out co-host Switzerland was the most exciting moment of the tournament so far.
