Horsemen at Belmont Park figure tomorrow’s 130th running of the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico will be a two-horse race between Derby winner Giacomo and Afleet Alex. Here’s what they had to say yesterday at the Big Sandy:
Hall of Fame trainer Allen Jerkens: “Giacomo and Afleet Alex ran huge in the Derby and should do the same here.”
Jockey Javier Castellano (rode Bellamy Road in Kentucky Derby): “Afleet Alex. I liked the way he looked and ran in the Derby.”
Trainer Jimmy Jerkens: “Giacomo seems to have gotten better at the right time.”
Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey: “Afleet Alex was the most consistent horse at two and at three. He might just be better than these.”
Hall of Fame trainer Leroy Jolley: “Afleet Alex is a professional racehorse. Other than the time he was sick, he has been there every time.”
Trainer Pat Kelly: “I loved Afleet Alex in the Derby and expect another big effort in the Preakness.”
