Brett Favre’s ribs appear to be just fine.
Adrian Peterson scored on the game’s first play, Favre played three quarters despite saying he might have a cracked rib, and the Vikings beat the Texans 17-10 in a preseason game last night.
In his second game since un-retiring less than two weeks ago, Favre was 13 of 18 for 142 yards.
Favre told ESPN before the game that he thinks he has a cracked rib, but the 39-year-old QB didn’t look to be in pain while getting sacked twice and taking numerous other hits.
After the game he backed off his comments.
“There is nothing you can do about it first of all, secondly, I don’t believe it is [cracked],” he said. “It doesn’t feel great but I think I will be fine. We have not done an X-ray yet. If it is cracked, there is nothing you can do about it.”
He drew a penalty for an illegal crackback block to the knee of Houston’s Eugene Wilson when he lined up wide in the wildcat formation in the third quarter.
CHIEFS: Head coach Todd Haley refused to breathe a word about the status of quarterback Matt Cassel, who injured his knee in Saturday night’s preseason loss to Seattle. But Yahoo! Sports reported he sprained the MCL in his left knee and could miss two to four weeks.
Haley stirred his team’s murky waters even further by firing Chan Gailey as offensive coordinator and assuming the role himself.
EAGLES: On his weekly radio show, Eagles coach Andy Reid said QB Kevin Kolb will start Thursday’s game against the Jets at the Meadowlands and Michael Vick will play in the first half. Vick will start the second half at QB, Reid said.
PATRIOTS: QB Kevin O’Connell, projected to be Tom Brady‘s backup, was cut, three days after Brady sustained what the Patriots described as a sore shoulder in a 27-24 exhibition win over the Redskins.
RAVENS: Cornerback Samari Rolle will spend at least the opening six weeks of the season on the physically unable to perform list with a neck injury that could end his career.
BILLS: After missing three weeks with a sprained toe, Terrell Owens returned to practice and declared he’ll be ready to play in two weeks for the regular-season opener vs. New England.
BENGALS: QB Carson Palmer (sprained left ankle) threw some passes to teammates during practice, and could play in the final preseason game against the Colts Thursday.
TEXANS — DT Travis Johnson was traded to the Chargers for an undisclosed draft pick in 2010.
