AFTER five years, the Fox Sports Net show that was supposed to compete with ESPN’s “SportsCenter” will shortly vanish, the latest victim of TV’s rotten economic climate. FSN will suspend its nightly “National Sports Report” Feb. 8.
Additionally, FSN’s “Regional Sports Reports” on Cablevision’s systems in New York, Chicago, Ohio, Florida, San Francisco and New England will be eliminated early next month. The nine “Regional Sports Reports” seen on Fox-owned stations will remain.
Cablevision-owned MSG Network is expected to retain, to some degree, several New York “Regional” production people, including anchors Bob Wischusen and Steve Cangialosi. New York’s “Regional” debuted in July, 2000.
