Amir Garrett, a 6-foot-6 sophomore wing from Los Angeles, announced Tuesday night on Twitter he will transfer out of St. John’s. Garrett, a fireballing left-hander who also plays professional baseball during the spring and summer in the Reds organization, averaged 5.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game this year, but saw his minutes drop off, from 26.9 as a freshman to 20.1 this winter.
His departure frees up a scholarship for St. John’s, who are in pursuit of nationally ranked Philadelphia guard Rysheed Jordan.
