Horace Mann is a victory away from a championship at its host tournament.
Maddie Gordon had 21 points, eight steals and six assists to lead Mann to a 64-33 win over Columbia Prep in the semifinals of the Peg Duggan girls basketball tournament Thursday in The Bronx. The Lions face Loyola, which beat Marymount, at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the final.
Rachel Lander had 17 points and five rebounds and Kaitlyn Puglia had 12 points for Horace Mann (2-0). Penny Savryn led Columbia Prep (4-1) with 13 points.
Loyola 37, Marymount 21: Shannon McNamee had nine points, Jess Luszczyk had seven points and Christina DiTolla had six points on two 3-pointers to lead Loyola (5-1) in the semifinals of the Peg Duggan tournament. Loyola, which meets Horace Mann in the final Saturday, went on a 17-2 run over the second and third quarters after trailing 11-7 at the end of the first.
