TULSA, Okla. — Bryson DeChambeau, who had grand plans on making a surprise start this week at the PGA Championship, pulled the plug on that plan Wednesday.
DeChambeau, who had surgery on his left wrist on April 14, made the trip to Southern Hills on Monday and practiced for a couple of days to test it out. After playing nine holes Tuesday, he said it felt good, but wanted to see how it recovered Wednesday.
Bryson DeChambeau won’t play at the 2022 PGA Championship. APAccording to Golf Channel, DeChambeau felt his strength and stamina weren’t going to be sufficient for him to compete, so he opted to withdraw with the hope of returning for the Memorial in the first week of June.
This is the fourth tournament DeChambeau has withdrawn from this year while battling wrist and hip injuries.
His last event was the Masters. He missed the cut and had wrist surgery days later.
Denny McCarthy, the first alternate, will replace DeChambeau in the field and play alongside Tyrrell Hatton and Max Homa for the first two rounds.
