American golf pro Cam Young was candid about his personal life after being asked about his demeanor after winning The Players Championship at Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. on Sunday.

“I was wondering, why aren’t you smiling all the time? I mean, you should be the happiest person in the world at the moment,” a reporter asked Young in his press conference after securing his second PGA Tour title — and the $4.5 million prize.

The 28-year-old Young is notoriously emotion-less on the course and with reporters.

He gave some insight onto why that is after the biggest win of his career.

“I think if you ask my wife [Kelsey] she’d say ‘he’s a very very happy person,'” Young said. “And I am. I mean I love my life, I love my family, I love my job. I couldn’t ask for much more. I’m healthy, I have healthy little children.

“I just think it’s more for me about — I think that’s the best way for me to play the best. Now, why am I not happy? I am. I don’t know. I’m thinking to answer questions and my brain is very tired after playing that golf course for four days. It takes a lot for me to come up with a reasonable answer. But yeah, I don’t know. Generally you’re not going to get a ton out of me, but it doesn’t mean that I’m not very, very happy to be sitting here with this.”

Young and his wife, who got married in 2021, began dating while they attended Wake Forest University.

Their two sons and daughter celebrated his victory on the course at TPC Sawgrass on Sunday.

Young held firm on the back nine as he dueled Englishman Matt Fitzaptrick while Ludvig Aberg imploded with a three-shot lead.

Young birdied the par-3 17th on the island green to tie Fitzpatrick. The Westchester native’s par on 18 would be enough as Fitzpatrick bogeyed after driving the ball into the trees on the right.

Young won his first PGA Tour event at the 2025 Wyndham Championship.

In 2022, he earned PGA Tour Rookie of the Year honors after he had five runner-up finishes in a season, including a second-place finish at The Open Championship and tying for third at the PGA Championship.

Young — who grew up in Scarborough, N.Y. and attended Fordham Prep in The Bronx — honed his skills playing at Sleepy Hollow Country Club.

His father and coach, David Young, retired recently as the director of golf at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club after a long career as a PGA of America Golf Professional.

Mom Barbara Young had a short stint playing professional golf before she headed a mini tour that offered playing opportunities for aspiring female professionals.
