Dustin Johnson is a team player, just not with Phil Mickelson.

“I love Phil and we’re great friends, but we have a lot more fun when we’re playing against each other, not as partners,” Johnson told reporters 0n Wednesday, according to GolfWeek.

According to the website, playing against each other entails the Tuesday high-stakes-gambling practice matches that are a staple between the PGA Tour stars. Mickelson — for better or worse — has become famous for these money matchups, which appear to regularly include Johnson.

The two paired together at the 2010 Ryder Cup and were crushed by Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer and Padraig Harrington and Ross Fisher in their two matches.

“Didn’t play worth a damn,” Johnson said. “Played like crap.”

Johnson is not alone, though. The US has lost three straight, and six of seven, Ryder Cups to Europe — a trend they will try to change starting next Friday at Hazeltine National in Minnesota.

“I think I can partner well with pretty much anyone, except for Phil,” Johnson said.
