Who needs detractors when you have supporters like Steve Elkington?
Elkington, a professional golfer now on the Champions Tour, went on a bizarre Twitter rant against Michael Sam, followed by an even odder explanation. Sam, who came out as gay earlier this month as he prepared for the NFL Draft, has been working out at the NFL combine this week.
Enter Elkington on Twitter:
The 51-year-old Australian deleted that tweet and attempted to explain away his perceived dig at Sam, saying he was taking aim at ESPN.
But he continued to miss the green with his approach to explaining away the situation.
Sam did not seem to bring up Elkington on Twitter on Tuesday, but did mention the lobbyist who is trying to get the NFL to ban gay athletes.
