Jordan Spieth is lucky he didn’t seriously injure a fan.

On his second shot of the day at the Memorial Tournament on Sunday, Spieth’s approach shot from the right-side rough nearly hit fans who were, inexplicably, standing directly in line with his shot at Muirfield Village Golf Club.

Luckily, the fans ducked before being hit.

Spieth, who hasn’t won since the 2022 RBC Heritage, got up and down to save par.

Though he’s in contention for a top-five finish at the Memorial, the Texan is currently six shots off Scottie Scheffler’s mark of 9-under, so it looks unlikely he’ll break his drought anytime soon.

Spieth has had an up-and-down season so far.

He missed the cut at the PGA Championships a month after a solid performance at The Masters, where he tied for 14th.

If he can close out a top-five finish at the Memorial, it would be Spieth’s first since the CJ Cup a month ago, where he finished fourth.

Meanwhile, if you’re attending a golf tournament, some awareness of where players might be hitting the ball — be it Spieth or anyone else — would be well-advised.

No matter where Spieth ends up on the leaderboard at the end of the day, Sunday could have been a whole lot worse if someone hadn’t gotten out of the way in time.
