Lexi Thompson had an impressive first PGA Tour showing but fell just short of history.
Thompson put herself in a position to make the cut at the Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas, though she finished three shots short of making the cut.
The 28-year-old finished Friday’s second round at 2-under, one shot outside the projected cutline.
She was even par through her two rounds at 142.
“Playing with the guys — amazing feeling,” Thompson said after she shot a 69 Friday, per the Associated Press. “Growing up with guys, I’ve always wanted to be out on a PGA Tour event and tee it up. But the biggest thing was seeing the kids out there outside the ropes and then meeting a few of the Shriners ambassadors.
“That was the most special.”

She began her day firing at 3-under through the first 14 holes.
Thompson opened with a 2-over 73 in the first round, which she finished on Friday morning, then opened her second round with a bogey.
Thompson — starting on the back nine Friday — then birdied five of her next 10 holes to storm into the mix for the weekend.
“I knew I had to play my ‘A’ game,” Thompson said Friday. “Just coming into the week there was more of a message than just playing golf. To inspire the kids, that’s what I enjoy most.”
Thompson is the seventh woman to play on the PGA Tour, a sponsor exemption that only came together in the last two weeks.
“I knew once I had made a few birdies in a row that I would be somewhat close, but I knew the cut line would keep on going lower and lower with these guys, especially with not that much wind out there,” Thompson said.
“I tried to stay focused on my game and focused on my swing thoughts, picking small targets and staying 100% committed.”
On the LPGA Tour, she has gone more than four years since her last victory.
“I don’t really see it as a challenge,” Thompson said in the days before the tournament. “Coming into a PGA Tour event, being a woman, is a challenge. I just got to play within myself. I know my game. Don’t try to push anything. … Try my best on every single shot, 100% committed. Whatever happens, I can only control my emotions and my game.”
Lexi Thompson is trying to make the cut at the PGA event. APThompson couldn’t finish the first round because of darkness.
She resumed her round by missing a 20-foot par putt on the 17th hole.
She sent her approach on the 18th well right of the water, but chipped to 6 feet and made the par.
