Here’s what it looks like when someone loses $589,000 in the time it takes a putt to travel 26 feet.
Bryson DeChambeau thought he had won the 3M Open — or at least forced a playoff — when he eagled on 18, moving to 20-under. That much is clear in his reaction after dropping an approach shot perfectly onto the par-5 green — an emphatic fist pump he tops minutes later after sinking the ensuing putt.
If both Matthew Wolff and Collin Morikawa made par in the final pairing, DeChambeau would win outright. But Wolff, making his third ever pro start in Minneapolis, equaled DeChambeau with an eagle of his own.
DeChambeau, understandably, was in a state of shock.
Amazing what Matthew Wolff has just done. Nearly as good as seeing Bryson Dechambeau’s reaction after he realised you put his chances to the grave 🤣🤣 pic.twitter.com/TECvkPNMM1

“Hats off to him,” DeChambeau said, per Golf.com. “He’s a great player and obviously a stud, so he belongs out here. So hats off to him.”
The humility is nice, and the blow is no doubt softened by the fact that DeChambeau will still bring home $563,000 from the weekend after tying Morikawa for second. But the reaction shots — and what Twitter made of them — are fantastic nonetheless.
