Rory McIlroy is doubling down on his condemnation of LIV Golf.

The 33-year-old golfer didn’t mince words during a recent interview with CBS Sports’ Kyle Porter, expressing his disdain for the Saudi-backed league once again ahead of this year’s British Open.

“There’s no room in the golf world for LIV Golf,” McIlroy said. “I don’t agree with what LIV is doing. If LIV went away tomorrow I’d be super happy.”

McIlroy’s comments shouldn’t come as a surprise given he’s been one of the most vocal critics of the controversial new circuit. Just last month, he denounced Brooks Koepka and other now-former PGA Tour stars who defected to LIV.

“I’m surprised at a lot of these guys because they say one thing and do another – I don’t understand that,” McIlroy said at a press conference on June 22. “I don’t know if that’s for legal reasons, I have no idea. It’s pretty duplicitous on their part to say one thing and then do another thing.”

That same month, McIlroy also took aim at LIV Golf commissioner Greg Norman following the Irishman’s RBC Canadian Open victory, admitting his 21st career PGA tour victory was largely motivated by his desire to surpass Norman’s 20 wins.

LIV Golf has drawn the ire of many due to its financial backing from the Saudi Arabian government amid its history of alleged human rights abuses.

Though players from LIV Golf can participate in this year’s British Open, Norman has been disinvited from the tournament’s events. He told Golf Digest on Saturday that he’s “disappointed” with the move.

“I would have thought the R&A would have stayed above it all given their position in world golf. (It’s) petty, as all I have done is promote and grow the game of golf globally, on and off the golf course, for more than four decades,” he said.

The British Open gets underway Thursday.
