The Ryder Cup quickly spiraled into a disaster again Saturday morning for Team USA, as Team Europe won three of four foursomes matches for a second consecutive day and took a commanding 8 ½-3 ½ lead into the afternoon four-ball session.

The Americans were more competitive than on Friday morning. Scottie Scheffler started to look like Scheffler again. Cameron Young continued to dazzle in his Ryder Cup debut. Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay posed a strong challenge to Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton, who entered 3-0-0 as partners. But the results were more of the same. The chances to pose any threat to the Europeans were squandered, as Team Europe moved to 10-2 in foursomes play since 2023.

And now it’ll be incredibly difficult for the Americans to avoid becoming the first team to lose at home since 2012 at Medinah.

After the matches on Friday, Keegan Bradley defended his decision to pair Collin Morikawa and Harris English again, and while they trimmed their deficit to just a hole near the end, the pair of golfers, again, mostly struggled in a 3&2 loss to Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood.

At one point, on the eighth hole, Morikawa’s tee shot nearly rolled in the water, and then he missed a 5 ½-foot putt for par to go down by four holes. Schauffele and Cantlay dropped their match, 3&2, too, with Rahm hitting the shot of the morning — and maybe even one of the best of the tournament — when he chipped a ball from 49 feet and just outside the bunker into the hole for a birdie on the eighth hole.

Scheffler and Russell Henley had a chance to earn a half-point before halving the 18th hole and falling one-up to Robert MacIntyre and Victor Hovland. That left the Bryson DeChambeau-Young pairing’s 4&2 win over Matt Fitzpatrick and Ludvig Åberg as the lone bright spot for the Americans, as Europe became the first team to win each of the first three sessions while on the road, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
