We know when Tiger Woods will be back on the course in 2019.
Woods will play in next week’s Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego, a traditional spot for him to open his golf season. The tournament is played at Torrey Pines, where Woods has won eight times in his career.
Woods was able to play regularly on the PGA Tour last season after multiple back surgeries. He finished his season with a win at the Tour Championship that vaulted him to 12th in the world rankings. He has played twice since then, in the Americans’ disappointing Ryder Cup and his hyped head-to-head match with Phil Mickelson.
The 43-year-old has vowed to play less this season after competing in 18 events last season.
“I’m not going to play as many as I did this year [2018],” Woods said recently. “I played in too many this year. And that was from adding an event because I missed the cut at L.A. [Genesis Open] to qualifying to get into Akron [WGC-Bridgestone]. Who knew I could make it through all the playoff events. So all those events told a lot. I won’t be playing as much as I did last year.”
Woods tied for 23rd a year ago at Torrey Pines when no one — himself included — was sure what to expect. He was coming off a fourth back surgery, this one to fuse his lower spine.
