Maybe handcuffs can help your handicap, too.
Just one month after Tommy Gainey was arrested for solicitation of prostitution, the golfer won his first Korn Ferry Tour event in nearly a decade at The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic.
In early December, Gainey, 44, was one of 124 people arrested in Florida in a massive prostitution and human trafficking sting named “Operation Santa’s Naughty List.” The married father of two was released after posting $500 bail, and is due in court on Feb. 6 on a first-degree misdemeanor solicitation charge.
“This means everything,” Gainey said after the victory. “Of course I lost belief.”
Despite just one career PGA Tour win since turning pro in 1997, Gainey became well-known for his unorthodox style of wearing a glove on each hand while playing, earning the nickname “Two Gloves.”
Gainey came out of the weekend tied for 75th in the Bahamian event, but captured victory by shooting a 3-under 69 on Wednesday, closing with birdies on the final three holes.
Afterwards, he dedicated the win to his family.
“My wife, I love her to death,” Gainey said. “Her and the boys mean everything.”
