LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jockey Garrett Gomez, who has mounts in eight of the 14 Breeders’ Cup races today and tomorrow at Churchill Downs, will be able to ride after going down in a nasty spill during Churchill’s sixth race yesterday.
Gomez was riding the filly Indy Bouguet in the mile turf event when she fractured her left front leg and went down on the far turn. Things looked bad when “Go Go” was carried off the track on a stretcher and taken by ambulance to the hospital. He was conscious, however, complaining of discomfort in his right shoulder.
“They took an X-ray and the results came back negative,” said his agent, Ron Anderson. “Garrett is fine and in good spirits, and he will ride [today].”
Indy Bouguet was euthanized on track.
