Itâs Friday, time for some Friday Fun.
This is not quite Asbury Park, a little more south, but it never hurts to borrow from Bruce.
Actually, itâs greetings from Berkeley Beach, to be exact. Berkeley Beach is just south of Seaside Park, which is just south of Seaside Heights and the famous boardwalk â where everyone is a teenager, no matter the age.
Hereâs a quick sportswriterâs guide to my favorite area of the Jersey Shore.
Find a beach where they let you have fun. You can throw a football here, Boogie Board, play volleyball, skim board, surf, para-surf, all on a wide beach. Berkeley Beach is just that. And after Aug. 1, like clockwork, the water is warm.
Bored with the beach, go a few blocks to the Bay, the best sunsets can be seen from the Island Beach State Park Marina.
Some you âcanât go wrongââ restaurants.
Berkeley Fish Market, located just before the entrance to Island Beach State Park. It’s only been around since 1937. Always crowded but they move you in and out quickly. Best bet, order pickup and go back to your place.
Ebbyâs South, Seaside Park, Italian, simply the best, a great local restaurant.
Nickâs: The perfect shore sub shop.
Bakery: Itâs on Central Ave in Seaside Park, been there forever, donât know the name but it is on the Beach Side and is the perfect shore bakery.
Thatâs all you need, mixed in with the food on the boardwalk, including Three Brothers Pizza and youâre set. Bring the bike, get up early and enjoy. Make sure you rent a place that has YES and SNY just to keep you in touch with the local ballclubs.
And if Bob and Norm are playing up on the boardwalk at the Spicy Cantina, you even have a night out. Donât laugh (Bobandnorm.com). Check it out.
Thatâs it, who needs a guide to the shore, you got it all now. Time to get back to the beach, the waves are rolling.
