If Montreal closer Ugueth Urbina, reported to be coming to the Yankees, is crushed at leaving the only organization he’s ever known, he isn’t saying. If he’s happy to escape a last-place sad-sack club for the three-time defending World Series champs, he isn’t saying that either.

Urbina, who doesn’t talk to the media, didn’t say much of anything before his Expos faced the Mets last night at Shea. But the non-denial “no comments” of the club, and the scene in the visiting clubhouse before the game, spoke more than the tight-lipped Urbina ever has.

When asked for his reaction to persistent reports that he will be traded to the Bombers for pitcher Brandon Knight and Triple-A infielder D’Angelo Jimenez, Urbina just grunted, shook his head and brushed past reporters.

He was summoned into manager Jeff Torborg’s office at 4:09. Two minutes later he emerged, walked through the clubhouse, and gave a teammate a hitchhiker’s thumb motion, as if to say, “I’m gone.”

“I know I was hearing a lot of rumors today. I’m not commenting,” Torborg said. “I know one thing I can say about it: I like the guy a lot. I love his ability, and I love his personality.”

And team CEO Jeffrey Loria was no more forthcoming, saying, “I’ve got nothing to say. My dominant closer is in uniform, he’s going out to the bullpen, and if we need him, he’ll pitch.”
