JET NOTES

PHILADELPHIA – The Jets are wary of the sleeping Eagles’ offense.

Eagles’ quarterback Donovan McNabb has been widely criticized for his performance this season, entering today’s game against the Jets with the lowest passer rating (51.1), accuracy percentage (47.9) and yards-per-attempt (4.49) in the NFL.

In last week’s win over the Giants, McNabb was 9-for-23 for 64 yards, his lowest total in a game he started and finished since his rookie season.

But he’s still the same player who helped lead Philadelphia to the NFC Championship Game the last two seasons, and that’s the players the Jets’ defense fears will be the one they see.

“Donovan finds a way to win games,” Herman Edwards said.

“You can’t sleep on a team like that,” Jets’ DE John Abraham said. “We can’t think [McNabb] is down right now. We can’t be a stepping stone for the rest of their season.”

Added Jets’ SS Sam Garnes: “We can’t go into this game relying on him struggling, because they’ll kill us if that’s the case.”

The Jets have never defeated the Eagles in a regular-season game in six tries. The last time they played the Eagles in Philadelphia was in 1978, when Herman Edwards was wearing No. 46 as an Eagles’ starting cornerback.

“That is odd; I did not realize that we have only played them six times in the history of the Jets,” Edwards said. “The last time we played them down there was 1978 and I was playing. I would never have thought that, but that is the statistic. Hopefully, we can get a win so we can clean up the statistic.”

Edwards said WR Curtis Conway will start alongside Santana Moss with Wayne Chrebet subbing in periodically depending on his back status. Chrebet has been hobbled by a sore back for the last two weeks.

LB Mo Lewis, who’s been slowed by hip and hamstring ailments, will likely play today, but expect to see a lot of rookie Victor Hobson, who’s been sharing time with him anyway.
