HOLLOWAY JOINS IONA
Iona continues to steal from the Big East. First-year coach Kevin Willard, a former guard at Pitt and assistant at Louisville, yesterday named former Seton Hall guard Shaheen Holloway as an assistant.
Holloway, a Queens native, was an administrative assistant last season for the Pirates.
“The fact that he is not too far removed from his playing days,” Willard said, “gives him a unique ability to understand the player-coach relationship.”
Last month, Willard snagged two Big East transfers – forward Jonathan Huffman from Louisville and Kashif Pratt from Seton Hall.
Holloway was a McDonald’s All-American in 1996, while playing for St. Patrick’s in Elizabeth. At Seton Hall, he became the Pirates’ all-time assist leader and led them to the 2000 Sweet 16.
